The stresses that are placed on valvetrain components are an ever-varying range of forces. One of the key components that take the brunt of the efforts applied to the entire valvetrain in any overhead valve setup are the pushrods. For serious camshaft profiles, the professionals at Engine Pro have determined that a thicker and stronger pushrod significantly improves the performance of the valvetrain by minimizing deflection.
In this video with Engine Pro’s own Dave Sutton, we’re introduced to the premier one-piece 4130 pushrods that are designed to handle over 400-pound valve seat pressure. These are manufactured in the U.S. from extra thick seamless .083-inch wall 4130 chrome moly tubing, and are available in both 5/16- and 3/8-inch diameter pushrods. . High lift cams seem to be all the craze, and the capabilities of this option are tailored to perform in conjunction with these monstrous profiles.
While the 5/16-inch setup is constructed of .116-inch walled tubing that’s rated to 700-pound open spring pressure, the larger 3/8 design carries a potent 850-pound rating. The pair of 3/8-inch pushrods that Engine Pro offers are separated by a .020-inch in tubing thickness, with the 3121S Series featuring a .120-inch wall breadth and the larger 3141S carrying a thicker .140-inch measurement. The ends of every premier rod are also machined to a precise .156 degree radius.

In order to increase oiling to throughout the valvetrain, these pushrods feature a .004 of an inch hole on the rocker side.
The machinists at Engine Pro pride themselves on the stringent specification requirements all pushrods need to pass before they proceed to packaging, with each component having to pass a length verification of plus or minus five thousandths of an inch of variance per set.
