Bill Foos was tearing down the Hemi crate engine in his latest project car, a ’67 Plymouth GTX, to repair a leaking rear main when, “I just got carried away and started putting some good parts in it.”
Key to that reconstruction was a 4.150-inch stroker crank, boosting the displacement to 472ci. Working with Wasserbeck Speed Shop in Prospect, Ohio, Foos also added Mopar Performance 10:1 pistons and a “small” roller cam from For Hemis Only with specs of 236/243 duration at .050 and .603 lift. Induction is via a set of Stage V heads from For Hemis Only, which also supplied the intake manifold that was topped with a pair of 650 cfm Edelbrock carbs. Spark is provided by MSD.
A late problem fitting the custom headers forced the team to conduct the dyno tests with stock manifolds. Based on those results, they estimate 600 horsepower at 6,200 rpm with the correct headers. That’s certainly a potent combination for the popular B-body.”
“It’s for Saturday night cruising,” adds Foos.
