The 40mm belt has carbon fiber impregnated in the rubber teeth so it does not flex and pull the fabric material. – Kevin Rumley of CV Products
Over the last few years the majority of sprint car teams have migrated away from the traditional belt drive system because of belt durability issues. Their answer was a gear drive system. While the system was more reliable it typically adds rotating weight to the engine.
At the 2012 PRI Tradeshow, CV Products might of just discovered the answer to bring belt drive systems back to the sprint car market with their new Sprint Car Cam Drive.
“Traditionally belt drives have not been robust enough, but we have partnered with Goodyear and made a 40 mm wide belt, explained CV Products Engineer Kevin Rumley. “The 40mm belt has carbon fiber impregnated in the rubber teeth so it does not flex and pull the fabric material away.”
Rumley continued, “With no more gear drive, you no longer have to worry about harmonics in the gear drive, basically it is a way more resilient timing system then a gear drive ever would be.”
Features
- Specifically designed for sprint car applications, the low backlash patented 40mm Goodyear belt dampens vibrations and harmful frequencies from the valvetrain withstanding temperatures in excess of 300 degrees.
- A CV patented friction reducing roller thrust bearing eliminates cam thrust set-up.
- The back cover utilizes a continuous o-ring cord that seals the timing cover back plate to the block. High vacuum Teflon seals are used in the cam and crank seals.
- The two piece design aluminum hard anodized cam gear greatly eases and reduces time to degree the camshaft
- The high strength tool steel oil pump drive utilizes a special heat treated steel alloy to reduce wear and extend service life.
- Every drive comes standard with integrated crank trigger feature that includes rare earth trigger magnets that will not lose strength at elevated temperatures.
- Quality ARP hardware included.
CV Products revealed to us that they had a sprint car at the World Finals equipped with the belt drive system and saw some great results at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
