You have to start somewhere, or so the old adage goes. But when it comes to high performance engine building and tuning, figuring out where to even begin can be a daunting task in and of itself. Luckily the guys over at EFI University have given you a great place to start on both of those fronts.
Starting November 29 and running until December 1, you can now participate in EFI University’s Competition Engine Development Course. Each program offers hands-on, instructor led session where you get up close and personal with high caliber mills and learn the ins and outs of not only completing a meticulous rebuild, but how to get the most out of any project.
The course takes an advanced look at, and teaches you to evaluate, three main areas of engine efficiency, which are: volumetric efficiency, mechanical efficiency, and thermal efficiency. Not only will you learn about theoretical aspects such as the previously mentioned topics, you actually get to build a high-rpm competition engine over the course of three days.
Additionally, as a bonus if you are an LS nut, the class is centered around building a high horsepower LS V8—which means you will come out with enough knowledge to have an LS producing up to two horsepower per cubic inch. And in case you were doubting that EFI University lacks the know how to show you these things, check out this video as one of their class-built engines makes 757 horsepower with just 381 cubic inches of displacement without a power adder, and all through ported stock casing 243 LS6 heads no less! That puts it just five ponies shy of the mythical two-horses-per-cubic-inch mark.
